Here's a suggestion: once you've already read Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, you can have friends over to read the final chapters together. For a shorter party, plan a "treasure hunt" for Horcruxes. Make a map of your home, yard and neighborhood, designating which areas are Little Whining, the Burrow, Godric's Hollow, Malfoy's house, Grimwauld Place, Borgin & Burkes, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Ministry of Magic, etc. Then imagine what to use as a Horcrux (the treasure), and where to hide it. Give your friends clues, somehow. One idea is to have a trivia game, where the winner gets the next clue. You'll have to make up your own clues, or "borrow" them from the many HP sites such Scholastic and the Harry Potter Lexicon, or even use the wizard cards on the video games to give you ideas. Maybe you can play a soundtrack from one of the movies in the location where the objects will be found, or find other ways to excite your guests. Make your own costumes, wands, etc., or use the links below to purchase them. Entertain with goblets of pumpkin juice and boxes of jelly beans. With some forethought, your Harry Potter theme party can be a great adventure! |
