The holy month of Ramadan begins on lunar calendar date Ramadan 1. This is the ninth month of the lunar calendar and is so celebrated because it is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammed. The most noted characteristic of the holiday month is the fasting which occurs from dawn until dusk each day in which the Muslim does not eat, drink or engage in intimate relations.
