Solnal (Korean New Year Festival) |
|
|
Solnal is a traditional Korean festival marking the first day of lunar month. To prepare, people usually pay all debts. A couple of weeks ahead, they send family & friends Solnal greetings. The night before, they prepare all the food. Children wear traditional Hanboks and receive gifts of money from elders. Everyone in the family ritually bow to their elders - even siblings - and play a game called Yut Nori. Kites fly in the sky. Koreans believe that if you stay up till 12am the night before Solnal, you will wake up with white eyebrows. Happy New Year! Chuc Mung Nam Moi! Gung Hay Fat Choy! Year of the Monkey |
