types / events

dates

  •  October 31 is the day set aside in the USA for celebrating Halloween.  Trick or treating occurs on Halloween evening, but other events such as haunted houses and pumpkin festivals are open the entire month of October.  Since many companies have their own costume contests for employees, and masquerade parties tend to happen this time of year, shopping for costumes can start as early as mid-September.

tips for safe trick-or- treating

  • Have treats by the door.
  • Clear your yard and walkways of debris or junk, remove any obstacles and repair loose steps.
  • If you have a pumpkin with a candle, place it where it will not be in a child's way.  Consider using a flashlight in the pumpkins instead.
  • Replace outdoor light bulbs that have burned out.
  • Remind your child to keep an eye out for things in people's yards that they may have forgotten, such as a rake.
  • Watch out for other people's pets.
  • Remind children not to dart in between cars.
  • Check for tampering with candy packages, and don't let your child eat something that is not packaged if it came from someone you do not know.
