       Halloween

Hallowe’en (a/k/a All Hallow’s Eve, a/k/a Trick or Treat of Beggar’s Night) has been celebrated since around the sixteenth century as a combination of Christian customs and a Druid autumn festival.  Traditionally, children will dress in a costume (of any kind) and travel the neighborhood in groups, knocking on doors and announcing "trick or treat" when the doors are opened.  If there is no treat (such as candy) forthcoming, the children are allowed to "trick" the neighbor (i.e., throwing toilet paper into his trees).

Today many Americans trick or treat inside a mall, and Halloween parties are sponsored by schools and other community centers.  The emphasis on anything "negative" about the dead is de-emphasized, and anything scary about the dead is treated as entertaining.  Seasonal "haunted houses" will spring up, giving you an opportunity to scream your cares away!  Listed below are Spookfests, parties, parades, carnivals and more.
