Labyrinths & Mazes

Scroll down for labyrinths and mazes worldwide.  A form of outdoor mental & physical exercise, getting through a maze can be an adventure.  Corn mazes are usually open only in late Summer through Fall, and most change from year to year.  Many mazes have themes and are elaborately designed.  Some are open at night for moonlight walks (bring a flashlight), and in October some are made "haunted" for Halloween.

Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has a single path leading to the center -- with no loops, cul-de-sacs or forks. Labyrinths are described by how many concentric circuits or paths they contain, and the two most common types are the Chartres and Classic-7.  Labyrinths are used as a ritual tool for meditation by some religions and beliefs.  Labyrinths can be made of a wide range of materials, such as hedges, wood, rocks, turf, canvas, tile or concrete.
